Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Makeup

Courtesy of Gaga Daily

Today, Lady Gaga premiered her new single “Born This Way“! The image for her new track is as intense as the song (shown), as Gaga appears with protruding horns, voluminous hair, and black winged eyeliner. The singer’s longtime stylist Nicola Formichetti styled the shoot, Sam McKnight whipped her strands, and makeup artist Val Garland prepped her face. “A bold decisive liner suits Gaga,” Garland told InStyle of the look. (Garland often works for MAC, the same company that does Lady Gaga’s Viva Glam campaign!) “She definitely has the personality to pull it off.” Agreed! Now we just can’t wait to see the video. In the meantime, listen to the new song on LadyGaga.com.

Hair Look of the Day Round Up

At » 11:56 AM // 0 Comments »

Chanel Iman's Glamorous Updo

THE STYLE A curly, asymmetrical coif that's tucked up in back and falling down in front

WHERE A Victoria's Secret Valentine's Day promotion in Toronto

WHY WE LOVE IT Model Chanel Iman caught our attention with her rosy cheeks, vampy lashes, and shiny red lips. But it was her soft but structured updo that completed the look. One part Old Hollywood glamour, one part modern It Girl, and 100 percent gorgeous.
 Nicole Kidman's Long, Loose Layers
THE STYLE Below-the-chest strands with subtle, easy layers

WHERE The Just Go With It premiere in New York City

WHY WE LOVE IT A hairstyle doesn't have to be overworked to be downright gorgeous. Take Nicole Kidman's fluffy, un-fussed over look. Gentle bends around the face draw attention to her smile; touchable texture feels soft and approachable.

 Hayden Panettiere's Swept Back Strands

THE STYLE Slick sides and sleek but soft pushed-back strands

WHERE The GQ, Cadillace, Lacoste and Patron Celebration of the Coolest Athletes and the Big Game in Dallas

WHY WE LOVE IT Hayden Panettiere's overgrown pixie is one of our favorite short cuts in Hollywood right now. The effortless, touchable texture keeps the exaggerated volume on top from feeling overdone.

Kim Kardashian's Skinny Headband

THE STYLE A thin, nude headband topping off a high, messy updo

WHERE Launching her jewelery collection Belle Noel in West Hollywood

WHY WE LOVE IT There's just something romantic about a skinny headband, especially if you're Kim Kardashian and it's holding back a riotous mane of hair. The contrast of the headband's peachy tone against her deep espresso hair adds just the right amount of definition.
 Jennifer Lopez's Voluminous Mane

THE STYLE Long, blown-out strands with tons of lift

WHERE A Gilette Venus event in New York City

WHAT SHE SAID "There’s two different ways I feel very beautiful and sexy," Jennifer Lopez told us at the event. "This first is a long big mane, like this. I’m a Leo, so I need my mane. But I also love the opposite, which is my hair pulled really tight and off my face. That probably represents the two sides of me."
 Minka Kelly's Soft Layers

THE STYLE Long gradual layers with subtle bend at the ends

WHERE A NYLON magazine party in New York City

WHY WE LOVE IT Minka Kelly's touchable style, created by Mark Townsend, reminded us of a simple truth: No matter how good your haircut is, if your hair isn't styled well, no one will know. If you've got long layers—and most of us do—rather than blowing them out pin-straight, take a few extra minutes to add a slight curl on the ends. It flatters your face and gives a simple style welcome movement.
 Gillian Jacobs's Brushed-Out Curls

THE STYLE Loose, combed-through curls swept back from the forehead

WHERE The Entertainment Weekly 2011 Pre-SAG Party in Los Angeles

WHY WE LOVE IT Community star Gillian Jacobs and her hairstylist Marcus Francis reminded us of a simple way to boost volume: Rather than parting your hair, push it straight back. Volume icons like Veruschka and Brigitte Bardot kept this trick near and dear—try it the next time your strands fall a bit flat. (A blast of hairspray will help your hair stay put.)
 Dianna Agron's Knotty Bun

THE STYLE A low, messy twist and graphic, sideswept bangs

WHERE The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards

INSIDE SCOOP "For Dianna Agron's look, we merged vintage and modern by doing a double knot in the back and sweeping the bangs to one side. That way, you get a glimpse of the effortlessly undone 'do from every angle,” said Suave Professionals hairstylist Jenny Cho. To literally knot Agron's strands, Cho split the hair down the center in two sections. "Tie the two sections like you're tying a bow and secure with pins. Then make another knot right under the first, and secure with more pins. Leave the ends out to give it the undone finish," she advises.

Hair Autumn/Winter 2011-12 : Fashion Fringe

At » 9:40 AM // 0 Comments »

By Sharon Forrester
NEW YORK FASHION WEEK kicked off with the glamorous amfAR Gala at Cipriani Wall Street, sponsored by MAC Viva Glam. The event was attended by the likes of Helena Christensen, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and Karen Elson as well as actress Rose Bryne who was sporting the latest hair trend - the full fringe.

While we look forward to seeing which beauty trends emerge from the New York Fashion Week catwalk shows, expect to see the full fringe continue to make an impact off the catwalk as trendsetters on the street gain inspiration from everyone from Sandra Bullock to Kate MossDaisy Lowe and Edie Campbell, who currently rock the look.

- Make sure your hairdresser checks the type of hair you have and the hairline - if you have a cowslick, for example, the fringe will not sit correctly.
- Have your hairdresser show what you would look like if you had a fringe before you go for the cut using a clip-in fringe.
- Make sure you know what type of fringe you want - sloped, rounded etc - there are many different types.
- Ask your hairdresser to cut only a little bit at a time and work their way up to a short fringe - once cut, there's no turning back.
- For more impact try adding a few foils to lighten and add interest to your new fringe.

Nine precious tips

At » 1:32 PM // 0 Comments »

Don’t give up, just slow down a little. You have to stick with it to get back in shape!

No-one can resist the temptation to make New Year’s resolutions, not even the most cynical or nonconforming.

Not that this is a bad thing! But most of the time, our resolutions are too ambitious, and we soon give them up, ending up even less motivated than we were last year.

Especially when the resolutions regard weight.

And so a number of fitness experts, including Mandy Ingber, Jennifer Aniston’s yoga teacher, have come up with some good advice to help and encourage you when you're ready to give up.

1. WRITE IT ALL DOWN
A bit like Bridget Jones. Write a diary of your resolutions, intentions and conquests. And, of course, your weak moments. It will help you visualise your commitment and consider your new lifestyle a normal, everyday thing rather than an exception to the rule.

2. PURE WATER
In the detox phase, drink two or three litres of water every day to eliminate all the toxins in your body. Especially ionised alkaline water, which purifies the body of acids and reinforces your immune system. A glass of warm water with lemon juice or sage tea in the morning will add an extra boost to any diet.

3. VEGETABLES
There are vegetables that should be added to every meal for their purifying, curative properties. These include squash, carrots, cabbage, asparagus, beetroot, celery and potatoes. Make them more flavourful (and healthier) with ginger and garlic.

4. MEALTIMES
Never have breakfast before nine o’clock in the morning. Don’t eat carbohydrates after five in the afternoon. Eating late will block up your digestive system, and your body needs time to digest complex foods. You may end up feeling weighted down until the next day.

5. DON’T GIVE UP
Fitness is a long-term thing. Many people are tempted to give it up. But it’s better to exercise less, go to the gym one less time a week or change the type of exercise you do. Your motivation is also a muscle that needs to be strengthened.

6. MASSAGES
Reward yourself with a good massage once in a while: a moment of relaxation which will also serve to release deposits of toxins in the tissues and drain the blood, improving your circulation.

7. TAKE IT ONE STEP AT A TIME
Fitting into that skirt at the back of the wardrobe, losing half a kilo every week, looking a little bit better every day: little goals will help motivate you. And overcome your laziness.

8. GET YOUR BEAUTY SLEEP
Sleep is one of the best beauty creams there is. It smoothes the skin and gets the circulation and the nervous system going. There’s nothing better than a nap to pick yourself up.

9. BATH SALTS
In the evening, enjoy the luxury of a relaxing hot bath. But before you get into the tub, dissolve a handful of Dead Sea Salt in it. Give your body and mind a true break, and get rid of all the toxins accumulated during the day. One of the most effective, easiest remedies there is.

Love or hate? Sandra Bullock's blunt new fringe

At » 2:46 PM // 0 Comments »

By Lucy Hutchings of marieclaire.co.uk

It's been a while since we've spotted the gorgeous Sandra Bullock on the red carpet, but the starlet was back for this year's Golden Globes, with a whole new look!

Stepping out at Sunday's glittering ceremony - her first big Hollywood outing since last year's Oscars - Sandy debuted a heavy fringe, which she's recently added to her glossy poker straight mane.

Wearing a romantic Jenny Packham dusty pink gown, the lading lady's dramatic new 'do' proved quite the contrast to her feminine styling.

Do you love Sandra's new eye-skimming fringe, or do you prefer her 'do' without?

Styling Tip : Look sexier in one step

Show a Little Lingerie

Look deliciously undone by letting a hint of lace peek out from a ladylike look. Blake Lively chose a dress with a purposely peek-a-boo effect, but you can reveal the lacy edge of a bra or camisole for a similar effect. Or, go the Katy Perry route and wear an opaque nude slip as a skirt.

Try On Some Patterned Stockings

Sometimes what you put on is more enticing than what you take off. Follow the lead of Sarah Jessica Parker and AnnaLynne McCord and add some sheer Swiss dot stockings to a little black dress for instant ooh-la-la.

Pair a Fitted Top with a Pencil Skirt

Be a modern day sweater girl in this ultra-simple curve-revealing combo. All it took was a flawless fit to make Jennifer Aniston's simple separates look enticing, while Scarlett Johansson upped the ante by choosing an hourglass-enhancing skirt with a two-tone waist.

Rock a Sheer Top

Add a feminine touch to your man-tailored trousers with a translucent top. Maggie Q bared her black bra while Drew Barrymore chose an eye-tricking nude underpinnings. Either way, keep the bra full-coverage to avoid turning a suggestion into a show.

Wear Touchable Fabrics

Warning: you may have to stay clear of the touchy-feely types. Choose a luxe plush like Minnie Driver or a crushed velvet a la Hilary Swank for a look that will be (almost) irresistible.

Match Your Lipstick to Your Dress

A hot red dress plus crimson lipstick is unmistakably va-va-va-voom. Just don't overwhelm the shade with busy accessories—limit your add-ons to stud earrings like Angelina Jolie or an oversize cuff like Ashley Greene

Golden Globes Trend : Hairstyles

Ponytails
Glamorous ponytails never go out of style — they're youthful, fuss-free and flattering. Kyra Sedgwick gets our vote for best pony of the night: She had just the right amount of volume and long, face-framing layers. Other standouts were Piper Perabo, who glammed up her style with a red pout; 14 year-old True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld, who couldn't have looked more age-appropriate; and Jennifer Lopez who, as usual, was the epitome of sleek.

French Twists
Awards show hair is tricky: It has to work with the dress, and the style should be modern — but not so trendy that it looks outdated in photos later on. We always expect to see updos — especially this season, as upswept hairstyles swept the spring runways — but were surprised by the elaborate French twists worn by Mila Kunis, Natalie Portman, Emma Stone and Carrie Underwood. These ladies looked lovely and regal in a way that will surely stand the test of time.

Beauty Tips : How to get the latest star beauty looks

At » 11:02 AM // 0 Comments »

Coral Glow

"I wanted Mila Kunis to look fresh and effortless," said Lancome makeup artist Tracey Levy, who worked with the star at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills. A hint of coral eye shadow, a sweep of coral blush along the star's cheekbones, and a wash of coral lipstick gave Kunis a tonal glow. "The makeup's coral tones contrasted perfectly with her emerald gown," said Levy.

Red Lipstick

At the 2011 InStyle and Warner Brothers Golden Globes After Party in Beverly Hills, Malin Akerman chose to accent her siren red gown with precise crimson lipstick. The reason the pairing doesn't look too matchy matchy? Akerman kept the makeup on the rest of her face clean, save for a dusting of gold bronze shadow along her top and bottom lashlines. The shadow added a glint of light and prevented the lipstick from being too severe.

Voluminous Updo

At the 2011 Golden Globes Awards in Beverly Hills, Scarlett Johansson's hairstylist Robert Vetica, who works with Moroccanoil, made the very most of her chin-length waves. "Her dress was a subtle enough color that I didn't want to pin all her hair back, but it was too ornate for me to leave it down," he explained. The solution? Curling all her hair in small, ringlet curls before brushing them out and swooping them back. "The curls gave her short hair tons of volume. I held it all back and to the left with a gorgeous vintage barrette," he said. The stylist finished with a blast of shimmery, light hold hairspray.
