STYLE BITS
Trousers - be they mid-calf or ankle-length, styled with a dash of humor, or worn under tunics or evening dresses - are used so extensively that they have practically colonized fashion. Nomadic echoes infiltrate the urban wardrobe of a hedonistic traveler and aesthete in search of new horizons who wears pullovers/veils/leggings or couture jackets/skirt/extra-long trousers, where the skirt creates a sharp contrast between the jacket and pants of a shiny suit.
When harem pants peek out from under a dress, clearly that European, African, and Oriental blend is stylish in the city. That's why daring black leather trousers are worn with filmy tops.
Tight tuxedo trousers accompany theatrically lined full skirts with a distinct Baroque look, and coral pants peek out from under a long taffeta dress in ivory, yellow, and icy white.
Languid idleness had already inspired seventies hedonism when a combination of suits, kurtas, and djellabahs swept away intellectuals and the most creative jet-setters who spent their nights in luminous Halston-style sheathes. Back then, a suede mini-skirt with suspenders was worn with flannel to interpret a hunter's spirit.
When circle skirts swirled in the winter of '69, capes and dresses cinched tight at the waist were worn over trousers. Layering - here in an orange-brick combination inspired by late 19th century wayfarers - was the choice for sailing through the early eighties, when cool black leggings appeared under Thierry Mugler's apron-like couture jeans dress from the winter of 1984.
